Open petition: Create a hardship scheme for vulnerable leaseholders facing major works bills

Created by Noornewa khan
Closes on

Create a statutory means-tested grant scheme for low-income, disabled and vulnerable leaseholders facing unaffordable major works, remediation or exceptional service-charge bills, so qualifying households are not forced into debt, required to sell, or put at risk of losing their homes.

Some leaseholders, including Right to Buy and former social-housing residents, face major works and remediation bills potentially running into tens of thousands of pounds, which they simply cannot afford. Disabled people, carers, pensioners & households on very low incomes may have no savings & little ability to borrow or repay loans. A national means-tested grant scheme could help landlords meet necessary costs while protecting vulnerable residents from debt, forced sale or losing their homes.
