Open petition: Create a UK fuel security and price strategy
Created by Gavin Griffiths
Closes on
Create a national strategy to reduce UK petrol and diesel prices by securing competitive long-term fuel supplies, strengthening UK refining and supply resilience, and improving competition. Where these measures cannot prevent exceptional price rises, use temporary tax cuts to protect consumers.
UK households and businesses are heavily affected by volatile fuel prices. We believe the Government should use the UK's scale and purchasing power to secure better long-term supply arrangements, while strengthening domestic refining, supply security, and competition. The priority should be reducing the underlying cost of fuel before it reaches the pump, rather than relying solely on tax cuts. Where exceptional prices remain, temporary tax relief should act as a backstop.
