Rejected petition: Make disability/SEND awareness and inclusion education compulsory in schools
Rejected on
We want the Government to require all schools to teach pupils about SEND and disabilities, including hidden disabilities. Children should learn about conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other disabilities, helping them understand differences, reduce stigma and to be more inclusive.
Many children with SEND experience isolation or bullying due to a lack of understanding from their peers. We believe the UK national curriculum should make learning about SEND and disabilities compulsory for all primary and secondary students. Teaching disability history, neurodiversity, and inclusive communication will foster an empathetic, accepting school environment and better prepare all young people to live and work in a diverse society.
