Open petition: Require specific child-safety assessments for AI companion products
Created by Jennifer Talbot
Closes on
Require companies developing AI companion or toy-like products likely to be used by children to complete and publish a child-safety assessment before the product is sold in the UK, including evidence that children with SEND have been considered in testing.
There are currently no clear, specific requirements to assess the psychological or developmental safety of AI companion products before they reach the UK market. These products can give inaccurate, biased or age-inappropriate responses and may encourage emotional attachment, dependency, over-trust or simulated friendship. Assessments should consider impacts on social development and specifically assess risks for children with SEND. Parents should be given clear risk information before purchase.
