Open petition: Require schools give first aid training to a higher level as part of curriculum
Created by Katelyn Millar
Closes on
I want schools to stop teaching first aid to a basic level. First aid should be taught as part of the core curriculum and should be built on to eventually give students the same level of knowledge as the First Aid At Work qualification provides.
Right now, I feel that, students are being taught very scarce first aid in schools. I want it to be mandatory for pupils to learn first aid to a more advanced level as they go through school. They could start with basic first aid and finish with a more advanced level qualification. Research suggests that up to 59% to 60% of pre-hospital deaths from injury could be prevented if more people had basic first aid knowledge before emergency services arrive. Surely if schools did more training, people would be more confident?
