Open petition: Commission independent review of Child Maintenance Service rules and practices
Created by Scott Cameron
Closes on
Commission an independent review of Child Maintenance Service, including how it verifies eligibility, investigates information provided by both parents, handles shared-care arrangements, and whether its systems and rules remain fair, transparent and fit for modern families.
The Child Maintenance Service needs a fundamental review to ensure its systems reflect modern family life. Concerns include how CMS verifies whether children remain in qualifying education, how it investigates information supplied by either parent, and its reliance on other systems such as Child Benefit. The rules around shared care also warrant review, particularly where parents provide substantially equal care but one may still be liable for maintenance.
