Open Ban single-strike animal slaughter

We ask the Government to prohibit the single-strike slaughter method, regardless of stunning, and ensure legislation explicitly prevents its use in commercial slaughter.

The method involves pre-stunning an animal followed by removal of its head in a single stroke.

We are concerned about the welfare implications of this method, including animal handling, restraint and the killing process. We ask the Government to prohibit single-strike slaughter, including where pre-stunning is used, and ensure that animal welfare legislation applies consistently to all slaughter methods, regardless of religious purpose.
