Rejected petition: Remove the use of Secondary School Phone Pouches

Rejected on

Schools should replace blanket pouch policies with responsible-use rules that teach students to manage technology effectively. Compulsory phone pouches can create queues, extra costs and difficulties leaving school, while limiting useful access to phones for learning and emergencies.

Phone pouch policies can also create practical problems for students who have legitimate reasons to access their phones, such as checking travel arrangements, contacting family after school, or managing important responsibilities. A more flexible approach could allow phones to remain switched off during lessons while giving students controlled access at appropriate times. This would maintain focus in class while reducing unnecessary disruption and helping students develop responsible habits.
