Rejected petition: Reform Child Maintenance calculations to reflect affordability and contact costs
Rejected on
Review and reform Child Maintenance Service calculations so they better reflect parents’ disposable income, the genuine costs of maintaining contact with children, shared-care arrangements and the financial impact of Collect & Pay, while protecting children’s financial support.
CMS is intended to ensure children receive appropriate financial support, but its calculation can place significant pressure on both households. We believe affordability should reflect disposable income after mandatory deductions, genuine contact costs, and actual shared-care arrangements. We also want greater transparency around calculations and Collect & Pay charges. We are asking for a review that protects children while creating a sustainable, transparent system for both parents.
