Rejected petition: Change the rules for musical theatre
Rejected on
There are so many talented children out there that deserve the chance to perform in the west end. However, they cap the height for children. Most children are taller these days, they still look young because they are still children but because of their height they are discriminated.
Let all children be children and follow their dreams. Why should their height squash their dreams! This is very old fashioned and it is discrimination!
Most productions enforce strict maximum heights—often under 4'3" to 4'7".
There are many talented children that should be given the same opportunities as others. They still look young, because they are young but they are dismissed before even getting the chance to audition because they don't fit the brief.
