Rejected petition: Reform police investigations: fairness, accountability and welfare

Rejected on

Review and reform police suspension and investigation procedures to ensure timely, fair and thorough investigations, independent oversight and accountability of investigating officers, regular suspension reviews, and consistent welfare and mental health support for officers and their families.

Police officers must be held accountable, but those under investigation are also entitled to a fair, impartial and timely process. Lengthy suspensions and investigations can severely affect officers and their families. We want stronger oversight of investigators, safeguards around evidence and conflicts of interest, meaningful suspension reviews, reasonable timescales, and independent welfare and mental health support for officers and their families throughout the process.
