Rejected petition: Make refugee resettlement part of the UK's immigration cap

Rejected on

Cap refugee resettlement at 5,000/year, count toward immigration limits. Any increase requires falling net legal migration. Conditional on overall reduction. Illegal small-boat entry = no asylum unless first safe country sought.

Make clear that any resettlement places cannot push the UK above the legal-migration limit already promised, and will not be used to mask increases in illegal-entry interceptions.
Stop rewarding illegal entry: anyone who crosses in a small boat faces forfeiture of asylum processing unless they can prove they sought protection in the first safe country they reached, and any "safe and legal routes" promise is conditional on the overall immigration target being met.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The Government currently has no official immigration cap which the Refugee Resettlement Scheme could fall under. You may wish to start a petition calling for a cap on immigration and the integration of the Refugee Resettlement Scheme into that cap.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
