For years, landlords, letting agencies and housing associations have profited from people who can’t get a mortgage. RIP OFF BRITAIN at its finest.
The banks say “no we aren’t lending you X amount of money to buy your own house even though your giving us 5 or 10% upfront which is our profit anyway but you can pay your landlords mortgage for them instead and let them profit from you” .
Rent a house for £1500 instead of paying less for your own they say !
We need a mortgage with no credit checks what so ever. All that should be required is proof you’ve paid rent on time for a full year for full acceptance with normal interest rates.

Decisions on the requirements needed for a mortgage are a matter for individual lenders, not the UK Government or Parliament.
You could start a petition calling for the Government to work with lenders on the creation of a Government-backed mortgage for people who don't meet certain eligibility criteria, if that's something you would like to see.
