Open petition: Raise tax threshold for the public sector to £17,500 basic & £62,000 higher rate
Created by Simon Maisey
Closes on
We call on the UK Government to implement structural tax reforms for public sector workers by raising the basic rate threshold to £17,500, expanding the higher rate threshold to £62,000, and establishing a flat 15% Income Tax and 5% National Insurance cap on all overtime hours.
Public sector employees—including NHS staff, teachers, police & Fire officers, prison staff, and civil servants are public servants who dedicate our lives to service, frequently working under immense pressure in some of the most testing and challenging environments. Despite this unwavering dedication, the current UK Income Tax Framework seems to rely on a prolonged freeze of allowances. We believe this has triggered severe fiscal drag, pulling dedicated workers into higher tax bands due to nominal inflation.
