Open petition: Strengthen the Serious Violence Duty to Help Keep Young People Safe
Created by Whitney Ringrose
Closes on
We call on the UK Government to strengthen the statutory Serious Violence Duty by introducing minimum national standards for youth violence prevention, including access to safe youth spaces, early intervention, mentoring and community-based prevention programmes.
The Government must strengthen the Serious Violence Duty by ensuring:
• Safe youth spaces in every community.
• Early intervention for young people at risk.
• Long-term funding for prevention.
• Transparency on local prevention efforts and outcomes.
• A meaningful voice for affected young people and families.
We cannot wait until a child is injured, exploited or killed before acting. Prevention must come before tragedy. We've had enough children dying. Enough families bereaved. Enough funerals. This should be done in memory of Jamal.
