Rejected petition: Strengthen England’s School Food Standards
Rejected on
Strengthen England’s School Food Standards so school meals help children develop healthy eating habits for life by requiring no added sugar, limiting routine cakes and sweetened desserts, increasing nutritious foods, reducing highly processed food, and strengthening monitoring and enforcement.
We want school meals in England to:
• contain no added sugar and provide no sugary drinks, while allowing naturally occurring sugars in whole fruit, vegetables and milk;
• exclude routine cakes, ice cream and sweetened desserts;
• include more vegetables, fruit, pulses and wholegrains;
• contain less salt and saturated fat and fewer highly processed foods;
• have stronger monitoring and enforcement to ensure standards are followed.
The aim is to help children develop healthy eating habits for life
