Open petition: Review Public Transport Equivalent Costs in Disabled Students' Allowance

Created by Jo Hague
Closes on

We urge the Government to review the regulations and establish a system that reflects the real costs faced by students today so that disabled students are not financially disadvantaged when accessing education due to inaccurate transport cost calculations.

We call on the Government to reform how the Student Loans Company calculates Public Transport Equivalent Costs (PTEC) for Disabled Students' Allowance. We feel current calculations often ignore real-world situations, forcing disabled students to pay more than their non-disabled peers to access education. We think the rules should be reviewed so PTEC reflects actual travel costs and does not create a financial penalty for disability.
