Open petition: Require safe interim child contact when contact stops before a court decision

Created by Robert McMahon
Closes on

Require safe interim contact, including supported or supervised contact, when one parent stops contact before a Family Court decision without an established safeguarding reason. Contact costs should also be addressed so children maintain relationships during court delays.

When parents separate, a child may lose contact with one parent before a Family Court hearing. Proceedings can take months, disrupting important relationships. Where there is no established safeguarding concern, there should be a prompt process for safe interim contact, including supported or supervised contact where appropriate. The Government should ensure agencies consider this and address reasonable costs.
