Open petition: Mandate a standardised national NHS aftercare pathway for spine surgery patients
Created by Katie Utting
Closes on
We call on the UK Government to create a mandatory standardised NHS postoperative rehab pathway for spinal cord surgery patients to end the postcode lottery of post operative care.
We are concerned that post-operative rehab pathways for patients undergoing major spinal cord procedures are severely lacking across the NHS. Many patients are discharged with no clear aftercare plan, guidance on post-surgical medication or emergency protocols for critical complications.
Patients require: Guaranteed neuro-physio, psychological support, holistic planning, rapid re-referral safeguards, a cross trust electronic record system, early social care assessments and a named clinical coordinator.
