Rejected petition: Ensure accurate attendance codes are used for mental health related absence
Rejected on
We call for the government to recognise and address the issues parents face when their child is absent due to mental health . The Dfe guidance states it should be authorised but it’s very apparent schools are not applying code I absences in these instances.
The inconsistent recording of absences relating to mental health across school aged children is absurd . The clear guidance from Dfe is being dismissed and it’s destroying trust and putting extra strain on family’s and public body’s to provide evidence . It further exacerbates the existing problems and is causing parent to register children to avoid schools absence asked fines . This also places a burden on LA to provide top up or alternative education.
