Open petition: Review and reform the tax status and structure of Judicial Pension Schemes.
Created by Patricia Alderson
Closes on
We call on the UK Government to launch an independent review into the structure of the Judicial Pension Scheme (JPS), specifically focusing on whether the tax-unregistered status of the scheme aligns with public sector fairness and fiscal responsibility.
Currently, under schemes like the JPS 2022, judicial pensions operate as tax-unregistered schemes. This structure means standard annual and lifetime tax allowances do not apply to these benefits in the same manner as they do for most other public and private sector employees. We believe all publicly funded pension schemes should be subject to independent oversight to ensure transparency, public value, and equity across the civil service and broader public sector workforce.
