Rejected petition: Enforcement Against Selfish Use of Parking Bays in London
Rejected on
It is a major issue in London, especially in Zone 1, for cars parked at either end of a row of bays to leave 6–10 feet between themselves and the perpendicular broken white lines. This gap is too small for another car but wastes valuable parking space. Tickets should be issued to discourage this.
Leaving excessive space between a car and the end of a parking bay is inconsiderate and unnecessarily reduces already limited parking capacity. With more bays being converted into cycle lanes and EV charging spaces, parking pressure in London is increasing. Parking wardens should be able to ticket vehicles parked more than 12 inches from the perpendicular end line. This would discourage selfish parking, maximise space and increase overall parking capacity.
