Open Make Insurance and coaching Qualifications Mandatory for Sports Coaches

Make it a legal requirement for all sports coaches to hold an Enhanced DBS, appropriate First Aid qualification, insurance and recognised coaching qualification before coaching independently. Allow trainees to coach only under the direct supervision of a qualified coach or mentor.

This petition calls for a consistent legal minimum standard for anyone coaching sport. Coaches should hold an Enhanced DBS, First Aid qualification, suitable insurance and a recognised coaching qualification. This would improve safeguarding, safety and professional standards across all sports. Trainee coaches, volunteers and those gaining experience should still be able to coach under the direct supervision of a suitably qualified coach or mentor, providing a clear pathway into coaching.
