Open petition: Reintroduce the "Peace Day" Bank Holiday on the 19th of July
Created by Graham Farmer
Closes on
The people of England & Wales have the fewest Bank Holidays in the UK. We think this is unfair. To redress the inequality, we want the government to formally approve the 19th of July as the new annual public holiday. This date was formally an official "Peace Day" Bank Holiday.
We think bank holidays significantly boost national morale, while tourism, retail and hospitality benefit from increased consumer spending. The 1919 "Peace Day" observed a national celebration of the feats and legacy of our ancestors' toil for the benefit of future generations. Promoting peace and prosperity are key roles of democratic governments acting for the people.
