Childminders have their own EYFS framework and deserve a bespoke Ofsted inspection toolkit. We call for clear, proportionate criteria that recognise their unique provision, uphold high standards and provide a fair route to every grade, including exceptional.

Childminders often combine leadership, safeguarding, curriculum planning and direct care in one role or a small team. A bespoke toolkit should explain how these responsibilities, learning through everyday routines and meaningful progress within small cohorts are assessed. Developed with practising childminders, we believe it would strengthen consistency and recognise impact on each child, without allowing setting size or cohort composition to become a barrier to recognition.
