Rejected petition: Create a public register of high-risk child sex offenders
Rejected on
Create a public register of high-risk child sex offenders in England and Wales, allowing parents and communities to see who poses an ongoing risk in their area, while protecting victims privacy and preventing harassment.
Currently, parents and communities cannot publicly check whether a registered child sex offender lives in their area. Sarah’s Law only allows information to be requested about a specific person. We want a public register for high-risk offenders, showing their name, photograph, relevant convictions and general area of residence. The system should protect victims privacy, be regularly reviewed and include strong penalties for harassment or vigilantism.
