Rejected petition: Introduce national temperature thresholds for schools in England
Rejected on
Introduce national temperature rules for schools in England: relax uniform rules at 30°C, shorten school days at 35°C, consider closure at 38°C, and require closure at 40°C to protect students during extreme heat.
A major El Niño is developing in the Pacific, and the Met Office says 2027 is very likely to be a record-warm year. Combined with long-term climate change, this raises concerns about extreme heat. Hot classrooms can make it harder for students to concentrate, learn and stay safe. I believe England needs clear national temperature thresholds so every school knows when to act.
