Open petition: Consult on a national system to report suspected pet-food-related illness
Created by Marie Carter-Robb
Closes on
Consult on a standardised system in England to collect and analyse health problems suspected to be associated with dog and cat food. Examine who should report, which events qualify and whether additional reporting duties are needed. Seek UK-wide coordination with devolved governments.
Pet food is already regulated, with incident reporting and surveillance in place. Standardised reports from owners, vets and manufacturers could help identify emerging patterns across products and places. Reports and patterns alone do not establish causation. The consultation should consider direct reporting routes and how reports would be assessed and integrated with existing systems. The Government should publish its findings and next steps.
