Open petition: Allow E-Bike Throttles Up to 15 MPH
Created by Daniel Capewell

Allow e-bike throttles up to 15.5 mph. A throttle limited to 15.5 mph is no faster than a pedal-assist e-bike limited to 15.5 mph. The only difference is how the motor is activated. Throttles like this could make starting, hills and junctions easier while keeping the same speed limit.
We are asking the UK Government to allow e-bike throttles up to 15.5 mph. A throttle limited to 15.5 mph is no different in maximum speed from an e-bike providing pedal assistance up to 15.5 mph. The difference is simply how the motor is activated. Throttles like this could make starting at junctions, traffic lights and hills easier, while helping riders who struggle to pedal continuously. The same speed and power limits could remain, keeping throttles properly regulated.
