Open petition: Require schools to provide carbohydrate information for school meals.

Created by Vanessa Huckstepp
Closes on

Require all state-funded schools in England to provide the total carbohydrate content, in grams, for meals, snacks and drinks supplied to pupils, so that children with Type 1 diabetes and those supporting them can accurately calculate insulin doses.

Children with Type 1 diabetes need to calculate mealtime insulin based on the amount of carbohydrate they are going to eat.
Schools may provide menus and other nutritional information but carbohydrate information is not consistently available. This can leave parents, school staff and children estimating the carbohydrate content of meals when calculating insulin.
I believe carbohydrate information should be readily available for every school meal and portion.
