Rejected petition: Ban the proposed £11 monthly broadband levy to fund the BBC.

Rejected on

Ban any proposed £11/month broadband levy to fund the BBC. Broadband is an essential utility, not a broadcast service. A public broadcaster has no legal standing, technical ability, or liability to manage telecom disruptions. Protect consumers by ruling out broadband fees for broadcasting

Under the Communications Act 2003, broadband (electronic communications) and broadcasting operate under separate legal regimes. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Ofcom regulations, ISPs carry strict contractual duties and compensation liabilities for outages. A broadcaster like the BBC has no statutory standing, technical capability, or legal liability to handle network failures or disputes. Levying a mandatory BBC tax on essential broadband contracts is legally flawed and unfair.
