Open petition: Review protection for migrant survivors and children from domestic abuse
Created by Gabrielle Knight
Closes on
We believe more must be done to protect migrant survivors and children who have experienced domestic abuse, from being trapped in dangerous situations due to their immigration status. We therefore call for a review of the current protections in place, and to consider what more can be done.
We want this review to consider whether courts are adequately equipped to recognise coercive control, and whether children’s voices and wishes are heard in such circumstances. The review should also consider how to prevent abusers exploiting visa restrictions, court orders or public systems to maintain control of their families. We hope such a review can help ensure survivors have access to safety, legal protection and support regardless of immigration status.
