Open petition: Give EUSS citizens the same UK voting rights as qualifying Commonwealth citizens

Created by Zsuzsanna Locsi-Puspan
Closes on

Most EU citizens with EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) status cannot vote in UK Parliamentary elections, unlike qualifying Commonwealth citizens. We call on the UK Government to review this distinction and extend UK Parliamentary voting rights to qualifying EUSS citizens.

Millions of EU citizens live in the UK. They need a direct democratic voice in decisions affecting them, including the UK’s relationship and talks with the EU. We call on the UK Government to review the difference in UK Parliamentary voting rights between qualifying Commonwealth citizens and EU citizens with EUSS status; consult EU citizens and relevant civic organisations on this issue and introduce legislation to extend UK Parliamentary voting rights to qualifying EU citizens with EUSS status.
