Open petition: Fund access to COVID vaccinations for people living with Type 1 Diabetes

Created by Emma Hartley
Closes on

Type 1 Diabetes was once considered to be high risk in relation to COVID. Access to vaccinations was available to those living with the condition. Since autumn 2025 most people with Type 1 Diabetes have no longer been eligible for routine NHS COVID-19 vaccination unless they also meet other criteria

COVID vaccinations are now only available to over 75s, residents of older-adult care homes, or people with compromised immune systems.

I've struggled through the last two weeks with COVID and Type 1 Diabetes, and I'm not out of the woods yet. My previous experience of COVID was when I was vaccinated and that was a walk in the park compared with how absolutely dreadful and debilitating it has felt this time around.

Vaccination is a personal choice, but we think people with Type 1 Diabetes should have the option to protect themselves against serious illness.
