Rejected petition: if you get it, get it sorted. Cut fuel duty and VAT on road fuel now.
Rejected on
We want the Government to cut fuel duty and reduce VAT on petrol and diesel. Duty is 52.95p a litre and VAT is 20% charged on the fuel and on the duty itself, so over half of what drivers pay goes to the Treasury, not to fuel
UK drivers pay fuel duty of 52.95p per litre on petrol and diesel, plus VAT at 20% and VAT is charged on the duty as well as the fuel. On a typical £1.45 litre, more than 75p goes to the Treasury, not the forecourt.
These rates are among the highest in Europe. Germany, Spain and Ireland all charge far less duty on diesel than the UK.
High fuel tax pushes up the cost of commuting, food transport and every service that depends on vehicles. If you get it, sort it.
