Open petition: Review NHS ADHD assessment triage and make it fairer and more accessible

Created by MISS CHERYL ERRINGTON
Closes on

We call for a review of NHS ADHD and autism assessment pathways to ensure they account for neurodiverse people who may struggle to recall examples or explain their difficulties under pressure, with fair triage, clear reasons for refusals, and a route to review decisions.

Neurodiverse people can struggle to recall examples, organise their thoughts or explain their difficulties under pressure. NHS triage should consider written evidence and lifelong experiences, provide clear individual reasons when referrals are refused, and offer a fair route to review decisions. People should not be disadvantaged because their difficulties make it harder to communicate during a short appointment. This could help ensure assessment decisions reflect people's needs more fairly.
