Open petition: Make it illegal to keep intimate images after person depicted requests deletion
Created by Bethan Borrett
Closes on
It should be illegal for someone to keep intimate photos or videos of another person after they have clearly requested that they be deleted. This should apply to all forms of storage, including phones, computers, cloud accounts, messaging apps, external devices, and physical copies.
Even if you willingly sent intimate photos/videos to someone, that should not mean they have the right to keep them forever. If you change your mind, you should have the right to ask for their permanent deletion.
Once a deletion request has been made, the other person should be legally required to delete the originals and any copies.
The aim is to protect people's privacy and recognise that consent to share intimate images at one point in time should not mean consent to keep them indefinitely.
