Open petition: Make it Compulsory To Receive Your Police Custody Report Upon Release

Created by Bethan Borrett
Closes on

Require police to provide every person with a copy of their custody report when they are released from custody. This would allow individuals to understand what happened during their detention, review the official record, and identify any inaccuracies or concerns about how they were treated.

Everyone should receive a hardcopy of their custody report of their time in police custody when they are released, without having to make a separate request. A lot of people taken into custody may not be aware such a thing exists until after they've left.

Providing this information upon release would promote transparency, accountability, and fairness, while helping people keep an accurate record of their detention should they need to challenge any aspect of their treatment.
