Rejected petition: Provide fair financial support for family carers looking after grandparents
Rejected on
Require the government to extend direct financial support and allowances to family members (such as daughters, granddaughters, or other close relatives) who act as primary carers for elderly grandparents.
Many families care for elderly relatives, like grandmothers, at home. Carers—often daughters and granddaughters—must cut working hours or quit jobs, causing severe financial hardship.
I call on the government to:
Reward family carers: Provide fair financial allowances directly to family members providing care.
Allow shared care: Enable financial support to be split when multiple family members share caregiving duties.
Ease poverty risks: Ensure looking after a loved one at home is fair.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
The Government already provides financial support to some unpaid carers through Carer's Allowance. This includes people who care for elderly relatives, such as grandparents. You can find out more about eligibility here:

We're not sure exactly how you would like the Government to change the financial support available to family carers, including where caring responsibilities are shared.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what changes you would like the Government to make to the existing financial support available to carers.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
