Rejected petition: Make child tickets available until age 16
Rejected on
Extend children train fares to include 16-year-olds across the UK, allowing teenagers to access affordable rail travel while continuing education and not yet being able to drive. This would reduce travel costs for students and make travelling to school, work and college more affordable.
While being 16 and still in education at sixth form, college or apprenticeship, some maybe having part time jobs on minimum wage. However travelling by train can become less affordable as they are no longer eligible for child fares, while many still being financially dependent on their parents. Extending child train fares to include 16-year-olds would help reduce travel costs, support access to to education and employment, and allow young people to travel more affordable and independent.
