Rejected petition: Sanitary products free for girls under 16 in low income households.
Rejected on
Girls should not have to go without pads or tampons. It’s a basic human right to have access to this products. Girls in low income families might struggle to afford them. If this is the case pads should be free for them who’s in low income households. So they don’t miss school.
Period Poverty should’t be a thing that happens anymore.
Some girls living in low income households might not be able to afford products.
They miss school because of this issue or they use items such as cotton/ old clothing cut into pads or tissue. This is unhealthy and undignified.
Having girls have access to pads is one less thing for them to worry about and they can better focus on school.
Also not having the support during these times might affect their mental health.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
The Government already funds free period products in state-funded schools and colleges in England. It's not clear whether you want free products to be provided outside schools, or whether you're asking for changes to the existing scheme.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
