Open petition: Ban streaming services from showing trailers or ads on plans labelled "ad-free"
Created by Joanne McKenzie
Closes on
Legally prohibit video-on-demand and streaming platforms from forcing users to watch unprompted first-party promotional trailers ("house ads"), previews, or sponsorships on subscription tiers that are explicitly marketed to consumers as "ad-free".
Consumers pay premium subscription fees to avoid video interruptions. However, we feel streaming platforms exploit a regulatory loophole by classifying their own promotional trailers as "house content" rather than commercial advertising. This forces paying customers to actively click buttons to skip promotional material just to watch a show. We believe an "ad-free" contract should mean zero unprompted marketing. Parliament must protect UK consumers from this unfair service degradation.
