Open petition: Allow use of TPO by qualified nail technicians with safety restrictions
Created by Lois Elizabeth Harrison
Closes on
We ask the UK Government to amend cosmetics regulations to reverse the TPO prohibition. We think it should be allowed in nail products when used exclusively by qualified nail technicians, subject to independent scientific safety assessments, concentration limits and strict professional-use controls.
Rather than maintaining an outright ban on TPO, we ask for safe, regulated use to be allowed for qualified nail technicians. Nail products are applied externally, not ingested, so actual exposure during professional treatments should be assessed. The substance called HEMA already has professional-use restrictions. We fear alternative products to TPO contain substances which may affect quality and longevity, causing repairs, lost clients and financial strain. We urge the Government to consult technicians and consider evidence-based safety controls instead of a blanket ban.
