Open petition: Fund consistent support for all Special Guardians

We demand the Government fund councils to give every Special Guardian fair, consistent support, in line with fostering allowances. Many family carers step up when children need them most. No child should struggle because of the amount of support available from their council.

Many special Guardians step in when children cannot live with their parents, often saving the state the cost of care. Yet support is discretionary, so it varies hugely between councils. Some families receive fostering level allowances, others receive almost nothing. No child should be disadvantaged by the lack of support provided by their council. In our view, dedicated Government funding would let councils provide fair, consistent support.
