Open petition: Create an attendance code for flexi-schooling partnerships

Created by Georgina Cooper
Closes on

Introduce a specific register code for agreed flexi-schooling. Current DfE rules mark home days as authorised absence. We are concerned this penalises school attendance metrics.

A dedicated code recognises out-of-school learning that works alongside the curriculum to build confidence and support child diversity. We believe education thrives when home and school work collaboratively. Flexi-schooling allows families to enrich classroom learning through experiential study that builds confidence and accommodates diverse learning styles. However, we think marking these days as Authorised Absence (Code C) damages school attendance figures and triggers inspection concerns. A distinct code could remove this penalty and empower schools.
