Rejected petition: Ban the practise of free pitching by agencies and freelancers to businesses
Rejected on
Make fair payment for work required to win or participate in pitches or interview processes a legal requirement. Where no budget exists, make brands and businesses use past work, pricing and reputation as grounds to engage talent – as you would in other professions (e.g. trade).
Business' ask agencies and freelancers to work for free as standard in the UK Creative Industry as part of pitch and interview processes without fair payment or contracts. The process is extractive, impacting independent business the hardest. Business intelligence and creative IP is being extracted by businesses in some instances, and work that has been created “for free” is being used without engaging the agencies or freelancers the ideas were extracted from.
