Open petition: Protect consumer warranties when businesses are acquired following insolvency

Created by Ehsan Salim
Closes on

Introduce legislation requiring businesses that acquire and continue a brand following insolvency to honour valid existing consumer warranties or provide a funded alternative. Require outstanding warranty obligations to be recorded and disclosed during insolvency proceedings and acquisitions.

Consumers rely on warranties when buying goods, yet these promises may be lost when a business enters administration and is acquired. Customers bear the consequences of restructuring beyond their control. Employment law protects some worker rights during business transfers. Consumers deserve similar protection. The Government should require valid warranties to be honoured or a funded alternative provided, with outstanding obligations recorded and disclosed during acquisitions.
