Open petition: Public inquiry into Government policy on the UK football broadcast market
Created by Simon Lorrimer-Roberts
Closes on
We call on the Government to launch an independent inquiry into its policy in respect of the UK football broadcast market.
It seems to us that the Government treats the TV football broadcast market as a private luxury, leading to extreme fragmentation. UK fans must buy multiple premium services to watch domestic football, costing far more than what international viewers face for the same matches. We believe this pricing model directly drives digital piracy. We feel that if football is to be considered a matter of strategic national interest, the Government ought to be much more robust on consumer cost protection.
