Rejected petition: Safe relationship campaign
Rejected on
Make comprehensive, age-appropriate education on healthy relationships, consent, coercive control, grooming and domestic abuse a statutory requirement in all UK primary and secondary schools, equipping children to recognise abuse, understand boundaries and build safe relationships.
Children are taught how to stay safe on roads and online, but recognising unhealthy relationships, grooming, manipulation and coercive control is just as important. Abuse does not always begin with violence. It can begin with behaviours mistaken for love, care or affection. The Safe Relationship Campaign calls for age-appropriate, compulsory education from primary school onwards, giving children the knowledge to recognise warning signs, understand consent and boundaries.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Relationships education is already compulsory in primary schools in England, and relationships and sex education (RSE) is compulsory in secondary schools. The statutory guidance already covers healthy relationships, consent, grooming, coercive control and domestic abuse.
You can find out more about the existing requirements here:

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
