Open petition: Make it a criminal offence for an MP or minister to mislead parliament
Created by Nathan Tindle Golder
Closes on
MPs and Ministers should face prosecution and prison for knowingly misleading Parliament or the public.
Company directors who act dishonestly or recklessly can be prosecuted, jailed and disqualified for up to 15 years. MPs and Ministers make decisions affecting millions, yet breaches are often dealt with only by party discipline or the Ministerial Code, which the Prime Minister enforces. We ask for: a statutory duty of honesty and care; independent investigation; a criminal offence, punishable by prison, of knowingly misleading Parliament or the public.
